Real-time Highway Traffic Information Begins June 6 in Tulsa Area
Real-time highway traffic information begins June 6 in Tulsa
Starting Monday morning, drivers in Tulsa will be able to get a sneak peek of the traffic conditions ahead of them during the morning and evening rush hours. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will begin displaying real-time traffic information on the 18 existing overhead message boards along highways and interstates leading into and throughout Tulsa.
The estimated travel times to upcoming highway interchanges will display Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and also between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., which are considered peak travel times. The boards will be refreshed with new information every two minutes to help drivers see the travel conditions ahead and plan their commute.
The overhead message boards are used in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and are primarily used to provide information on emergency alerts, such as Amber or Silver Alerts, severe weather situations or for lane closures due to accidents. These emergency alerts will take display precedence over the travel time information.
As a reminder, highway lane and ramp closures are announced daily in the Traffic Advisories section of www.odot.org. Drivers can sign up to receive the daily traffic advisories by clicking the “Sign Up For News & Alerts” link on the main page of this website, or they can also follow ODOT on Twitter – @OKDOT.
