TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Young Cherokee ladies hoping to serve as the next 2015 Miss Cherokee and represent the tribe as its ambassador can now pick up an application.
The deadline to apply is July 10. The Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition is held Saturday, Aug. 29.
“The competition was fun and educational and is not a beauty contest,” said Lisa Trice-Turtle, Miss Cherokee sponsor and the 1986-87 Miss Cherokee. “To me, being Miss Cherokee was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an honor to represent the Cherokee Nation traveling throughout the 14-county area and statewide to share stories of our rich culture and history, while making new friends.”

Applications for Junior Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition and Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition are also now available. The deadline is July 22.
To run for Junior Miss Cherokee, contestants must be between the ages of 13-18, be a Cherokee Nation citizen and reside within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction. For the Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition, one girl and one boy are selected from each of three age groups: 4-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Candidates must be a Cherokee Nation citizen and live within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.

Applications are also available at the Cherokee First desk at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. Miss Cherokee applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, July 10. Hand-carried or faxed applications will not be accepted.
