Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism offering July 18 class at Cherokee National Prison Museum 
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation officials are hosting a July 18 workshop for those who want to learn how to make their own unique pair of moccasins.
The class will be held at the Cherokee National Prison Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All materials will be provided to make traditional pucker-toe moccasins, which were historically worn by the Cherokee people.
Registration costs $25 and is limited to 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration can be done online atwww.cherokeegiftshop.com. Class participants need to bring a sack lunch for themselves.
The Cherokee National Prison was the only penitentiary building in Indian Territory from 1875 to 1901. It housed sentenced and accused prisoners from throughout the territory. The interpretive site and museum give visitors an idea about how law and order operated in Indian Territory.
