04/12/2019 – Construction on Washington (91st) Street between Garnett Road and Olive (129th East) Avenue is beginning this week. This project will see the roadway widened from three lanes to five and include a multi-use trail on the north side of the roadway.
Beginning this week, the speed limit is reduced to 25 miles per hour and all three traffic lanes will be reduced to 10 feet wide and shifted to the north side of the roadway. The center turn lane should be maintained throughout the project.
The first step will be utility relocation along Washington, which should be completed by early summer, when the actual roadwork is anticipated to begin. Construction on the roadway should be completed in late 2019 or early 2020, weather and other conditions permitting.
“As a growing community, it’s very important that we have enough capacity for east and west traffic coming into Broken Arrow,” said City Manager Michael Spurgeon. “We are really excited to see this project completed to ease traffic on the western side of the City coming from Tulsa.”
Approved by voters in the 2014 General Obligation Bond, the widening project will cost an estimated $4.4 million.
