Broken Arrow Military History Center to display WWII Medal of Honor
02/22/2018 – Peter Plank, Board Member of the Military History Center of Broken Arrow, has acquired a Medal of Honor presented to Sgt Paul Huff of Tennessee during WWII and will be displayed for only two months in the museum.
Sgt Huff is the first paratrooper to receive the Medal of Honor. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1941 and volunteered for duty as a paratrooper. As squad leader of Co. A 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, attached to the Fifth Army on the Anzio beachhead, then Cpl Huff performed feats of heroism that gained him the Medal of Honor. Sgt Huff also served in Vietnam before retiring in 1970 as Third Army Command Sergeant Major.

It is one of only 464 awarded to the members of the Armed Forces in WWII out of 16 million who served. A second Medal of Honor may be viewed at the 1st National Bank on display across the street from the museum located at Main & Broadway in Broken Arrow, which was awarded to Ernest Childers of Broken Arrow during WWII.
The Military History Center displays numerous items from as far back as the American Revolution to the current War on Terrorism. Large displays on the Civil War, WWI, WWII and Vietnam provide a large variety of military items from the wars that shaped our great nation.
Hours of operation are Tuesday – Friday 10am–4pm and Saturday 10am–2pm. The Military History Center is closed Sunday and Monday.
Adults are $5.00, Members and children under 18 are free.
