Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma welcomes new CEO
Tulsa, OK, January 3, 2018 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma Governing Board of Directors is pleased to announce today Melissa Ramirez as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer beginning January 16. Ramirez will succeed R. Darrell Weaver who is leaving to run for the Oklahoma State Senate.
After thorough succession planning and a comprehensive search process, the board is pleased to have found the best individual to lead this first-class mentoring agency. “I look forward to working with Ms. Ramirez and am encouraged that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma will thrive under her leadership. Ms. Ramirez is an experienced nonprofit leader with a proven track record of fundraising, marketing, finance, and operations. During any transition, our focus has always remained on our mission and I believe that with Ms. Ramirez in the lead we will continue to match more children with mentors and expand our financial resources in the state of Oklahoma,” said Molly Jarvis, Chair, Governing Board of Directors.

Ramirez holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing from Oklahoma State University. She has over 19 years’ experience in nonprofits including the American Red Cross and most recently with the American Heart Association. Ramirez is skilled in all aspects of managing a successful nonprofit organization. She has received several awards from the American Heart Association including Rome Betts Award for Staff Excellence, Manager of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement for Exceeding Goals in fiscal years 2011-2014. Ramirez was also awarded the 40 Under 40 Award from the Tulsa Business Journal is 2011.
