August marks LifeRide enrollment option period

The option to make enrollment changes to LifeRide, the City of Broken Arrow’s ambulance subscription program, is scheduled to begin on Aug. 1, and ends Aug. 31.

LifeRide is a subscription based program that provides patients with valuable cost-savings on emergency medical response and transportation in Broken Arrow and supports the Broken Arrow Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services Division. This enrollment period only applies to residents wishing to change their enrollment status.

The average ambulance bill can cost up to $1,500 or more. Many insurance companies will not cover the entire bill, leaving you responsible for the balance.

LifeRide members with medical insurance receive the benefit of not paying out-of-pocket costs, after a claim is submitted to their medical insurance provider. For members who do not have medical insurance, a 40 percent discount is provided.

All members of the household who claim the address registered with LifeRide as their primary residence will be covered.

LifeRide costs only $5.45 monthly per household for those inside the City limits and $7.50 per month for those outside the City limits but within the Broken Arrow fence line. For most members, the monthly fee will show up as a line item on your utility bill.

If you are interested in enrolling in LifeRide but you do not receive a City of Broken Arrow utility bill, LifeRide is paid on an annual basis. Individuals and families who do not wish to receive the benefits of LifeRide may opt-out by completing a nonparticipation form and submitting it to Utility Customer Service by Aug. 31. Residents may also complete the form at the Utility Customer Service office located at 116 E. Dallas St.

Download enrollment or nonparticipation forms, starting Aug. 1, at www.LiferideBA.org. For additional assistance, call 918-259-6595 or email liferide@brokenarrowok.gov.

New Fire Subscription Program for residents outside City limits

The City of Broken Arrow and the Broken Arrow Fire Department (BAFD) proudly provide Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to you as a resident within our city’s fence line. The Manual of Fees calls for a fee of $700 per hour per truck for fire protection services. However, in an effort to provide a more cost-effective solution to those living within the BAFD coverage area, but outside the City limits, The City has introduced an optional annual subscription service.

This program is similar to LifeRide. This annual Fire/Rescue subscription program will cover all expenses associated with a Fire/Rescue response to your property beyond what your insurance will cover. There will be no out of pocket expenses for a BAFD Fire/Rescue response to your property. The City of Broken Arrow may continue to invoice your homeowner’s insurance or other liability policy, but the property owner will not be required to pay the remaining expenses contained in the Manual of Fees, if they participate in the Fire/Rescue subscription program.

Currently, residents outside City limits pay $90 annually for LifeRide to avoid any out of pocket expenses for EMS services. The Fire/Rescue subscription program will also be $90 per year, but those participating in both programs will receive a discounted rate of $150 per year.

Please consider participating in the City of Broken Arrow Fire/Rescue subscription program. Participation will be based on a program year effective Sept. 1. Pro-rated payments may be accepted, but enrollment must be made prior to an incident requiring BAFD response. For those electing not to participate in the Fire/Rescue subscription program, the following payment schedule will be effective as of Oct. 1, 2019 and shall be updated periodically:

Fire suppression for residential or commercial structure fire (including mobile homes and outbuildings) $700 per truck per hour
Contracts for Fire Protection Services for non-residential/non-agricultural properties $1,000 per tuck per hour
Fire suppression for vehicles, grass or wildland, rubbish, trash, or other fire $300 per truck per hour
Hazardous materials response (plus supplies, contracted mitigation expenses, and mutual aid expenses) $700 per truck per hour
False alarms/calls (after two documented false calls in a rolling year) $100 per truck per hour
EMS calls (Non LifeRide subscribers) with or without transport (plus expendable EMS equipment $100 per truck per hour
