TULSA, Okla. – Anjelah Johnson, comedian and internet sensation, is hitting the road and bringing her stand-up act to The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa on Sept. 28.
Tickets start at $19 and go on sale May 18.
Johnson became an internet star with her viral video “Nail Salon” in 2007 that led her to many stand-up, television and film opportunities. That same year, she joined the cast of “MADtv” as a series regular, which spawned another internet sensation, “Bon Qui Qui.” The original character, a disgruntled fast food employee with no filter, has been enjoyed, viewed and replicated by over 65 million people worldwide. The initial success of “Bon Qui Qui,” led Johnson to sign a record deal with Warner Bros. Records to release a full album as Bon Qui Qui in 2015, titled “Gold Plated Dreams.” She followed that with a Christmas EP, titled “Merry Hoodmas.”
Johnson has appeared in multiple ads and commercials, including campaigns for Sprint, Visa, Snickers, Verizon, Allstate, K-Swiss, Dryers Ice Cream and more. She’s also guest starred on shows such as “The Shield,” “Ugly Betty,” “Curb Your Enthusiam” and others all while touring with her stand-up comedy.
She’s recorded several one-hour specials, including “That’s How We Do It,” “The Homecoming Show,” “Not Fancy” and “Mahalo & Goodnight.” Her billing on the silver screen includes films like “Our Family Wedding,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” “Enough Said,” “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” and “Mom’s Night Out,” which also features her husband, Manwell Reyes, of the musical duo Panda$.
Johnson was born and raised in San Jose, California and is of Mexican and Native American descent. Before her comedic success, she was an NFL cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders. As an Oakland Raiderette, she was named Rookie of the Year and performed in Super Bowl XXXVII.
