Former Bever property will become a park to honor victims, first responders
The City of Broken Arrow will begin construction on a memorial park dedicated to victims of the Bever family murders and the first responders at the crime scene. The groundbreaking is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30 at the site of the former Bever residence.
Last year, private donors from Broken Arrow and throughout the Tulsa metro area gave $50,000 to purchase the house, which has now been removed. City Councilor Mike Lester led the successful fundraising campaign to turn the property into a memorial park and garden, after the brutal killing of five Bever family members in July 2015. Police arrested two brothers in connection with the crime. The notoriety of the murders had made the house a target of vandals and onlookers.
“As a community, we can never erase the tragedy that occurred here, but we can make a statement that we will not allow evil to define who we are and the high standards we hold,” said Lester. “Through the efforts of so many people, both within our City and the larger metro area, we will be able to build a place of peace and serenity.”
The memorial garden will be merged with the existing Indian Springs mini-park bordering the property.
