MUSKOGEE (Dec. 8, 2016) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister will host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Martin Luther King Community Center, 627 N. 3rd St., to hear Oklahomans’ thoughts on how to strengthen public education and refocus on meeting the needs of individual students.

The meeting will be the seventh and final in a fall series of one-hour town halls enabling the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to gather input as the agency creates a comprehensive state plan to bolster academic performance for all students and reduce barriers that hold many kids back. On Oct. 18, more than 350 people attended the first town hall in Duncan. Other town halls have been held in Ada, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Enid and Yukon.
Mike Garde, superintendent of Muskogee Public Schools, will introduce Hofmeister on Monday. Refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m.
OSDE has received support from the community for the event, including promotional efforts by Hilldale Public Schools, Muskogee Public Schools, the Education Foundation of Muskogee, Action in Muskogee, surrounding school districts and local parent-teacher organizations.
