Totaling $1,466,539.23 in total grant awards, the recipients of the 2016 Attorney General’s Safe Oklahoma Grants are the Blanchard Police Department, Broken Arrow Police Department, Durant Police Department, Midwest City Police Department, Minco Police Department, Oklahoma City Police Department, Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, Shawnee Police Department, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, and Tulsa Police Department.
Safe Oklahoma Grant awards help law enforcement agencies through a variety of techniques that target violent crime in Oklahoma communities. For example, through strategies like increasing the frequency of patrols in known, high-crime areas, grant funds help local law enforcement agencies directly target crime hot spots in their communities.
“The Safe Oklahoma Grant program has been tremendously successful in achieving the objective of reducing violent crime in communities around Oklahoma,” Attorney General Pruitt said. “By providing funds to offset the costs of implementing evidence-based policing strategies, local agencies can detect crime ‘hot-spots,’ put boots on the ground, or find other innovative ways to increase the safety of Oklahoma citizens.”
The Attorney General’s Safe Oklahoma Grant program, established in 2012, is funded through the Legislature and provides local law enforcement agencies with additional resources to fight violent crime in local jurisdictions through overtime patrols, enhanced technology and analytical capabilities.
