Via Oklahoma Turnpike authority: Starting today, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has introduced PlatePay, a cashless tolling system, on SH-351/Muskogee Turnpike. This development allows motorists to embark on cashless journeys using PIKEPASS and PlatePay, enhancing safety and convenience for travelers between Tulsa and I-40 near Webbers Falls.
PlatePay streamlines traffic flow by eliminating abrupt speed changes when drivers switch lanes to reach toll booths and then rejoin high-speed traffic. The removal of these potential conflict points significantly bolsters safety across Oklahoma’s turnpike system, which has witnessed over 500 accidents at toll booths in the past six years. Furthermore, this transition empowers customers to conveniently settle their tolls online without the hassle of searching for cash while driving.
PlatePay utilizes cameras to capture a vehicle’s license plate, enabling the Authority to send an invoice to the registered owner. Motorists lacking a PIKEPASS will receive their bills by mail. PIKEPASS users can continue to experience seamless travel while enjoying significantly reduced toll rates.
Although the Muskogee Turnpike has embraced cashless tolling, motorists should anticipate sporadic lane closures as crews work on dismantling toll equipment in the coming weeks.
This marks the ninth Oklahoma toll road to implement fully cashless tolling, with the Muskogee Turnpike joining others like the John Kilpatrick, Kickapoo, H.E. Bailey, Chickasaw, Gilcrease, Cimarron, Creek, and Cherokee turnpikes in offering the PlatePay system for open road tolling. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority plans to transition the remaining three state turnpikes to full cashless tolling by the end of 2024. These turnpikes include I-44/Will Rogers and I-44/Turner in northeastern Oklahoma, as well as SH-375/Indian Nation in southeastern Oklahoma.
The completion of the PlatePay conversion also means that drivers on the Muskogee Turnpike can now utilize the PlusPass app. This app enables motorists to manage their accounts on the go and pay tolls using credit cards, PayPal, or prepaid cash, resulting in approximately 25 percent savings compared to PlatePay customers. PlusPass can be used on any Oklahoma turnpike that has transitioned to all-electronic tolling.
PIKEPASS remains the most cost-effective method for traveling Oklahoma turnpikes, offering customers the lowest toll rates. To open a PIKEPASS account, please visit PIKEPASS.com or call 1-800-PIKEPASS (1-800-745-3727). For more information about PlatePay, visit PlatePay.com
