Broken Arrow Mayor Craig Thurmond is one of seven mayors to present during the 73rd Mayors’ Institute on City Design, which will be held Sept. 4-6 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Thurmond will present the progress and challenges the City of Broken Arrow has faced in the creation of its proposed Innovation District, which will bring together technology and light industrial commercial enterprises with educational institutions, such as local schools and higher education facilities, into one area.
“I’m honored to be invited to speak at the Mayors’ Institute on City Design. Having our efforts to start our Innovation District recognized by such an influential group shows we are truly making tremendous steps into the future and securing Broken Arrow’s place in the future of technological enterprises,” Thurmond said.
The Innovation District is designed to bring in high-paying, technical jobs into the City while offering talented young people a chance to learn from and intern with these businesses.
The Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) is a leadership initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the United States Conference of Mayors. Since 1986, the Mayors’ Institute has helped transform communities through design by preparing mayors to be the chief urban designers of their cities.
