TLC, formed in Atlanta in the early 1990s, soon became the best-selling American girl-group of all time, with sales of 70 million records worldwide, four Grammy Awards, two RCIAA diamond-certified albums among a total of four multiplatinum albums, 10 Top 10 singles and four No. 1 singles.
Made up of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, the group exploded on the scene in 1992 with their debut album, “Ooooooohhh…on the TLC Tip,” with breakout hits like “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg,” “Baby, Baby, Baby” and “What About Your Friends.” In 1994, the group dropped the iconic album “CrazySexyCool” that includes the singles “Creep,” “Red Light Special,” “Waterfalls” and “Diggin’ On You.” All four singles reached the Top 5 on Billboard’s “Hot 100,” and the album won a Grammy Award.
In 1999, TLC built on the success of “CrazySexyCool” with the release of “Fanmail.” They shot to the top of the charts again with singles like “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty.” Their fourth album, “3D,” produced singles like “Girl Talk,” “Hands Up” and “Damaged.”
Last year, TLC released their fifth and first album in 15 years. The self-titled record is the product of a widely successful Kickstarter campaign launched by the group to gauge interest in a new album. The campaign received overwhelming support and raised more than $400,000, including from fans like Katy Perry, New Kids On The Block, Donnie Wahlberg and Bette Midler.
The VH1 original film “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” chronicled their rise and broke records as the highest-rated television film premiere of 2013 and the highest-rated original premiere on the network between consistent touring.
