Cherokee Nation calendar of events for May
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation hosts several events during the month of May, including the Remember the Removal Bike Ride send-off ceremony and the Sequoyah and Cherokee Nation Immersion graduation ceremonies. See the calendar below for a complete list of events.
May 1
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Cherokee Heritage Center begins observing summer hours at the center, located at 21192 S. Keeler Drive in Park Hill. For more information, call 918-456-6007.

6 to 7:30 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts a public meeting regarding the Lyons Switch Road Project at the Lyons Switch Community Building near Stilwell. For more information, call 918- 207-3804.
6:30 p.m. – Sequoyah Drama presents “An Evening with the King” at Sequoyah’s The Place Where They Play, located at 17091 S. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts a gravestone workshop as part of the preservation series at the Tahlequah City Cemetery, located at 1251 W. Fox Street in Tahlequah. The class will be led by Jonathan Appell, a professional gravestone and masonry conservator. This class is free and features hands-on, interactive training while covering topics on how to reset stones, repair fragmented stones, appropriate repair materials, use infill material, and repoint and clean masonry. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts the “End of Trail” exhibit at the John Ross Museum, located at 22366 S. 530 Road in Park Hill. 7 p.m. – Cherokee Nation is a sponsor for the Tulsa Drillers vs. Midland Rockhounds game at Drillers Stadium, located at 201 N. Elgin in Tulsa. Cherokee Nation Deputy Chief S. Joe Crittenden will throw out the first pitch, and Tribal Councilor Canaan Duncan will lead the crowd in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Cherokee Heritage Center hosts a two-day stickball making class at the Ho Chee Nee Chapel, located at 21192 S. Keeler Drive in Park Hill. 9:30 a.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts its 14th annual Traditional Native Games qualifying competition at Maryetta Public School in Stilwell. Competitions include a cornstalk shoot, Cherokee marbles and horseshoes, which all start at 10 a.m., with the hatchet throw and blowgun starting at 11 a.m. and chunkey at 12 p.m. Registration is held 30 minutes before the start time of each game. The tribe recognizes five individuals and two departments as the “Volunteer Firefighter of the Year” and “Volunteer Fire Department of the Year,” and also distributes checks to volunteer fire departments in the tribe’s jurisdiction.

Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Keeler Complex, satellite offices and health centers will be closed for Memorial Day. Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital urgent care and emergency department as well as other Cherokee Nation emergency services will remain open.
The Cherokee Family Research Center, located at the Cherokee Heritage Center, will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. The Cherokee Heritage Center Museum, museum store and villages will remain open during normal business hours.
